This article will discuss the Circa 62 and Studio Style Newport lines of putters offered by Scotty Cameron and Titleist.

Circa 62 Putters

The Circa 62 line is inspired by classic looking putter heads from the 1960’s, as the name suggests.  There are four clubs in this product line, No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6.  The putter heads are milled from soft stainless steel which provides a soft feel at impact.

A charcoal mist finish has been added to this line, and this provides resistance to wear and corrosion and also cuts down sun glare when addressing the ball.  The grip on the putter is called the Red Baby T grip which is designed to give good feel and feedback to the golfer.  All the putters in the line have the standard 4 degrees of loft angle and 71 degrees of lie angle.  The standard length is 35 inches, and with regard to offset, the No. 1 and No. 2 have ¾ shaft offsets with a flared neck, while the No. 3 and No. 6 styles have a full shaft offset with a plumbing neck, which means that the offset is obtained by abrupt right angle bends.  All the putters in the Circa 62 line carry a suggested retail price of $300.

Studio Style Newport Putters

Another line of putters in the Scotty Cameron product line is the Studio Style Newport line.  There are five choices in this product line, including the Newport, Newport 1.5, Newport 2, Newport 2.5, and Newport Mid putters.  The latter is a belly putter and is 43 inches in length rather than the standard 35 inches in the other models.  The Newport line is based on one of the early Cameron putter designs which was introduced in 1962 and became famous after it was used to win the 1963 Masters.  Jack Nicklaus was the winner that year.  The body of the putters is a precision milled 303 stainless steel, and a milled inlay is made from another type of steel, called German stainless steel, which is attached by screws along with a polymer inlay.   This combination of materials is designed to provide optimum feedback in terms of soft feel and good sound at impact.  Some recent refinements have been made to the Newport line including a thinner top line and some rounding of the toe and heel weighted areas on the back of the putters.  The finish on the club heads is a misted finish which tends to lessen glare when addressing the ball.  The club heads in this product line look similar, but the Newport 1 and Newport 1.5 have slightly more curved or radial lines which give them a softer look than the more angled lines of the Newport 2 and Newport 2.5.  Other differences include a full shaft offset and straight step neck for the Newport 1, Newport 2, and Newport Mid, and half-shaft offsets and a flared neck for the Newport 1.5 and Newport 2.5.  As with virtually all the putters in the Cameron line, the loft angles of the Studio Style Newport Putters is 4 degrees, and the lie angle is 71 degrees.  Standard length is 35 inches, but as was mentioned earlier, the Newport Mid is a 43 inch long belly putter.  Only the Newport 2 and the Newport Mid are available for lefties.  All the putters in the Studio Style Newport line retail for $300.

The Circa 62 and Studio Style putter lines by Scotty Cameron and Titleist are highly regarded putters and have been used by many tour professionals for years to chalk up wins at the highest levels of competition.
