Ray Cook Putters- Billy Baroo, Weight Adjustable Super Gyro,  Extreme Aim, and Gyro Series of Putters- Great Values

Ray Cook putters have been around for decades and have been used to win over 200 professional tour tournaments and all four of the major titles.  This is certainly an impressive record.  There is a large choice of putters in nine different product lines, and four of these will be discussed in this article.  The most unique feature of Ray Cook putters is price.  Most major club and putter manufacturers sell putters that retail for between $200 to $300.  You can find some Ray Cook models priced as low as $35, and no putters on the company web site sell for over $110.  So when it comes to value for price, Ray Cook is certainly a brand to consider.  The putters described below all come in women’s sizes as well, that is, they can obtained with shaft lengths of 33, 34, or 35 inches.

Ray Cook Billy Baroo Series

The Billy Baroo Series of putters are derived from classical designs and shapes.  They are milled from 303 stainless steel and feature a yellow-gold anodized aluminum face insert.  The Billy Baroo I is

a classic looking blade putter with a thin rear flange.  The hosel is called a wine glass hosel, and it sort of looks like an inverted wine glass shape.  Basically there is a bend in the shaft back toward the heel at about an inch above the putter head.  The Billy Baroo II is a heel-toe weighted blade design with a hollow back cavity and a thin flange behind the impact area.  This putter has a standard plumber’s hosel with what appears to be a full shaft offset.  The Billy Baroo III is a center shafted classic looking mallet putter.  It too is heel-toe weighted with a thinner flange behind the impact area.  All three of these putters retail for $79.99.

Ray Cook Weight Adjustable Super Gyro Series

This is a series of modernistic mallet putters that comes with a package of adjustable weights that the golfer can use to change the weight in the putter head to account for personal preferences or variable green conditions or grasses.  There are 20 different weight variations available.  The mallet heads are the same for all the models and consist of a bar that extends from the putter face to the back of the mallet surrounded by a metal ring that circles from the toe to the heel, encompassing the center bar.  There are open areas near the heel and toe sections of the mallet head.  The center bar is white and creates a very prominent alignment aid, especially with the perpendicular lines engraved therein.  There are several models to choose from with both heel and center shafted putters available.  They come in lengths of 33, 34, and 35 inches and are available in either black or yellow.  The retail price is $109.99, so if you are looking for a modern style mallet with very high MOI, and you are price conscious, this series is a good bet.  The package of weights is sold separately and retails for $59.99 and includes a carrying case and tools.

Ray Cook Extreme Aim Series

There are three putters in this line, and they all have a long aiming bar made of anodized aluminum which is yellow-golf in color.  There are three white parallel lines that run the length of the bar and offer an exceptionally prominent alignment aid.  The back-weighting of the bar provides a high moment of inertia, (MOI) which adds forgiveness on off center hits.  The Extreme Aim I has a classic looking heel-toe weighted blade style, but of course it has the aluminum bar coming out the back.  The Extreme Aim II has a classic looking mallet head, again with the bar protruding out the back beyond the flange of the mallet.  The Extreme Aim III is a modern looking mallet with a metal ring that encompasses the entire metal bar, so it is a mallet with a large head.  All three putters have a yellow gold aluminum face insert, and they all retail for $54.99.  This is an exceptionally low price for a putter that has modern design and alignment features.

Ray Cook Gyro Series

The Ray Cook Gyro Series is a group of modern mallet style putters.  The putter heads on each of the models are essentially the same.  They are formed by an outer metal ring that circles from the toe of the putter to the heel encompassing a center bar that runs straight from the putter face to the rear of the putter head.  There are two large open areas, one each on the toe and heel sides of the putter head.  This type of design is used to substantially increase MOI, which means less twisting of the club head on off-center hits and thus more forgiveness.  The Gyro 1 is a center shafted putter with a bend in the shaft near the putter head, and the Gyro 2 is a heel shafted putter.  Both models can be purchased in black or in a silver or satin finish.  Both putters have a one line alignment aid running the length of the center bar behind the impact area.  The Gyro 3 and 4 have a different center bar which is wider.  This bar is white and has perpendicular lines for a more prominent alignment aid.  The Gyro 3 is a center shafted putter, while the Gyro 4 is heel shafted.  Both the Gyro 3 and Gyro 4 come in a black or a yellow finish.  The Gyro 5 is the same as the Gyro 3 except that it is a center shafted putter without the bend at the bottom, and thus the shaft attaches closer to the putter face.  All these putters retail for $99.99.  Once again, if you are looking at buying a modern mallet style putter with high MOI and prominent alignment features, the Ray Cook Gyro series of golf putters is an excellent deal.
