Srixon is known more for its golf balls and other golf clubs more so than for putters, and their currently offered putter line, the P-700 Series, has only two models.  These putters look very interesting, however, and they are worth looking at if you like the modern mallet styles with large back areas that redistribute weight to the perimeter of the putter and thus create a very high MOI (moment of inertia).

The Srixon P-718

The P-718 model has a large stainless steel ring around the back of the putter head, and it

is attached to the body, which is made from cast aluminum, in several places.  This weight distribution to the rear of the putter head accomplishes several things.  As mentioned, a very high MOI is created, and this adds forgiveness on off center hits.  This is a very important matter when it comes to maximizing the number of putts a golfer can make.  In his book, “Putt Like the Pros”, Dave Pelz, the well known author and short game instructor for many prominent Tour professionals, discusses at length the effects of putts that are not hit on the “sweet spot” of the putter face.  All else being equal, putts not hit solidly, that is to say, putts not hit on the sweet spot of the putter face can cause a player to miss many more times than he otherwise would.  It is one of the most important parts of developing an effective putter stroke.  In fact, missing the “sweet spot” by only ¼ inch can have very negative effects.  So using putters with a very high MOI can help average golfers make more putts and save strokes.  In addition, the CG (center of gravity) is farther back in the putter head, and this helps lift the ball slightly so it begins rolling on its intended line as quickly as possible.  The large mallet design also offers the opportunity for the putter to have a large alignment aid.  In this case it consists of three long and parallel white lines with two smaller red lines interspersed.  A soft urethane face insert is also added to improve the putter’s “feel”.  Inserts like these have also been shown to get putts rolling more quickly on an intended line because they can reduce the amount of skidding the ball does before it begins a true roll.  The putter shaft is heel mounted and connects directly to the putter head, and it is bent to provide some offset.

The Srixon P-719

The P-719 model has many of the same features as the P-718.  Its appearance is somewhat different, however, for several reasons.  The ring around the back of the putter is more rounded, whereas the ring on the P-718 has several corners.  The main difference, however, is the large white cylindrical alignment aid.  This aid almost looks like it extends the ball and is meant to offer confidence for people who have trouble lining up putts, and that is most people, whether they are aware of it or not.  Very few golfers can set up to a putt from the side of the ball and visually align the putter accurately.  The P-719 has the same urethane face insert described for the P-718 as well as the same heel mounting and bent shaft configuration.

If you are open to modern looking mallet putters with large heads and alignment aids, the two putters offered by Srixon are worth a look.
